1977 Chevrolet Chevelle

The Chevelle was Chevrolet’s entry into the “intermediate” segment, and was manufactured from 1964 through 1977. The 1964-’65 cars were very similar, likewise with the 1966-’67 models. 1968-’72 Chevelles are close in size and shape, and many parts over this 5 model year run are interchangeable. 1973-77 Chevelles were sold on style with the new emissions and safety regulations in place.

European styling came into full effect for the 73-77 versions of Chevelle. The most radical redesign since it’s inception in 1964. From nose with it’s big bulky bumper and stretched hood to the sloping over a “Colonnade” roof. A design that took away the hard top with a swept b-pillar and large opera glass side window to the “fast-back-esque” rear window. The rear deck is relatively shortened and rolls down to an equally boxy bumper.

Slight changes to trim were made from 1975 through 1977. 1976 saw the introduction of rectangular headlights. The new DOT approved lens were a big hit with the automakers and offered new styling ideas. Chevrolet stacked them in the front of the fenders to make a statement. The design continued into 1977.

The slope-nose Laguna Type S-3 was deleted in the 1977 lineup, offering only the Malibu and Malibu Classic.

Chevrolet produced just over 325,000 Chevelles in 1977.
