Old meets new
Tad Nelson and crew are building a 1965 Hurst-Themed GTO to debut at the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV. The concept for this project is Tad's answer to the question, "What would a 1965 GTO design become when merged with today's state-of-the-art automotive technology?"
Tad's always been drawn to the classic body design of 1960s muscle cars. But no matter how meticulous he was, no matter how well the restoration turned out, he still felt he had a beautiful car with questionable handling, poor fuel economy, and antiquated accessory choices. So Tad decided to utilize modern technology to address these issues, while allowing him to choose from a variety of options and let his imagination run wild.
The GTO will include: a supercharged fuel-injected LS3 engine, ODB II computer system, a 6-speed manual transmission, OnStar, GPS navigation system, airbags, power windows, heated power seats, anti-lock brakes, fully automated keyless entry, key fob ignition, and satellite radio. The goal is to seamlessly integrate these features so that they appear to be part of an original 1965 GTO design.
The 1965 Hurst-Themed GTO will feature an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger Kit, Flowmaster exhaust, Hurst pistol-grip shifter and performance 20" wheels. Original Parts Group will be providing emblems, moldings, bumpers, lenses, weatherstripping, grille and miscellaneous interior products for the GTO. Stay tuned for more on this project as it is completed.
